SUMMARY:Social Media Toolbox for Researchers
DESCRIPTION:Social media is now a strategic space for science communication\, that allow to increase the visibility of projects\, publications and the societal impact of research. \nHowever\, many researchers find it challenging to translate technical content into digital formats that are both appealing and appropriate for different platforms. \nThis workshop aims to present a practical toolbox to support researchers in communicating their work on social media\, focusing on language adaptation\, format selection\, copywriting\, visual aesthetics\, and the use of digital tools. The workshop will also cover the CIIMAR institutional social media case and will conclude with a practical exercise. \n  \n\nGENERAL INFORMATIONS:\nIt will be held at CIIMAR on October 22nd\, from 9:30am to 12:30pm. \nThe session will be delivered in english\, unless all participants are Portuguese speakers. \nIt is a free workshop for CIIMAR researchers (PhD students\, postdoctoral researchers\, and principal investigators) who are interested in communicating their research through social media. \n  \nRegistration closes on October 15th. \n  \nNOTE: The attendance certificate will be issued if the trainee attends at least 80% of the total course time. \nIf tickets are sold out\, you can sign up for the waiting list (you will be notified in order of registration). \n  \n\nDESCRIPTION:\nBy the end of the session\, participants should be able to: \n\nUnderstand the strategic role of social media in science and institutional communication;\nGood practices for interacting with CIIMAR’s institutional social media;\nIdentify differences between platforms and adapt content accordingly;\nTransform complex scientific results into clear and structured messages for social media;\nUse simple tools to support the creation of visual content (e.g.\, Canva\, CapCut).\n\nTopics: \n\nContext\n\nWhy communicate science on social media?\nThe CIIMAR case\n\n\nPlatform ecosystem\n\nOverview of different platforms\nTypes of content\n\n\nUseful tools\n\nPlatforms that support content planning and creation\n\n\nPractical exercise\n\nRecommendations: \n\nBring an example (e.g.\, a paper\, project\, expedition\, scientific result\, or science communication initiative) that you wish to share on social media\, for a practical exercise;\nBring a laptop or tablet for the hands-on exercise.\n\n  \nTrainer:  \nAna Carolina Sousa is a science communicator at CIIMAR\, where she integrates the Image\, Communication\, and Outreach office\, focusing on the centre’s institutional communication\, content creation\, and social media management. \nShe holds a Master’s degree in Applied Biology from the University of Aveiro\, with additional training at the same institution in audiovisual production\, screenwriting\, and digital storytelling. \nHer path intersects science and artistic practice\, with experience in both stage theatre and street theatre in historical reenactment contexts. In 2018\, she founded the theatre company Sériùs\, where she takes on roles in production\, directing\, dramaturgy\, and acting\, and currently develops projects that engage with history and heritage. \nShe has a strong interest in the intersection of art and science and in creating narratives that bring scientific knowledge closer to diverse audiences through artistic media. \n  \nEunice Sousa is a Biologist with a PhD in Science Communication. Her main interests are the development of strategies for the public awareness of biodiversity through autonomous nature exploration and boost of artistic and traditional communication channels to the demands of contemporary science communication. She specialized in the direct contact with nature and the use of children trade books to the development of a more positive public perception of biodiversity. She has experience in creating\, executing and evaluating science communication programs including media\, hands-on activities\, citizen science and exhibitions as well as natural history manipulation for museology purposes. She contributed to several types of science communication projects including “Darwin’s Evolution” exhibition\, “Ponds with Life” campaign\, EC-funded LIFE+ Trachemys project and “Sea Food Chains” project. Her work in science communication is reported in international journal papers.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with key platforms\, including PANGAEA\, institutional and international data repositories\, CIIMAR’s electronic lab notebook (eLab) instance\, and online tools for the development and management of Data Management Plans (DMPs). \n  \n\nGENERAL INFORMATION:\nIt will be a two-day event taking place on November 2nd & 3rd\, from 2m to 4pm\, at CIIMAR. \nThis is a free course designed for CIIMAR Researchers.  \nThe session can be held in portuguese or english\, depending on the preferences indicated in the registration. \n  \nNOTE: The registration is for both days. She has a particular interest in the conservation of vulnerable deep-sea habitats (such as sponge gardens and cold-water corals) and the application of ecological modeling to study their biodiversity\, distribution\, and resilience. In addition to her background in marine ecology\, she has experience in scientific data management\, having worked as a Data Steward at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (2022-2024)\, where she helped implement data management practices aligned with FAIR principles and Open Science.

DESCRIPTION:O workshop ‘Ciclo de Transferência de Tecnologia‘ visa a aquisição de conhecimentos sobre o ciclo de transferência de tecnologia desde as primeiras etapas até à valorização do conhecimento. \n  \n\nINFORMAÇÕES GERAIS:\nEste será um evento de duas tardes (das 14h às 16h) a realizar nos dias 4 e 11 de novembro\, no CIIMAR. \nSerá dinamizado em português. \n  \nO workshop é gratuito e destinado à Comunidade CIIMAR. \n  \nNOTA: O certificado de participação será emitido caso o formando compareça a\, pelo menos\, 80% do tempo total do curso. \nCaso os tickets estejam esgotados\, pode inscrever-se na lista de espera através do seguinte link (será notificado por ordem de inscrição). \n  \n\nDESCRIÇÃO:\nObjetivo: Adquirir conceitos fundamentais sobre o ciclo de transferência de tecnologia. \nConteúdos Programáticos: \n\nConceitos de transferência de tecnologia;\nEstratégias de valorização e proteção;\nNoções básicas de empreendedorismo.\n\n  \nFormadoras: \nCarla Domingues\, Coordenadora do Gabinete de Transferência de Tecnologia e Desenvolvimento de Negócio \nAcumula mais de 10 anos de experiência de investigação na área das ciências do mar. Anteriormente integrou a equipa técnica da Fórum Oceano\, a entidade responsável pela dinamização do Cluster do Mar Português\, onde desenvolveu atividade em estreita relação com stakeholders empresariais do setor público e privado\, e de organizações de investigação e desenvolvimento\, assumindo responsabilidades no acompanhamento de projetos\, em atividades de cooperação e networking\, no apoio a novas ideias de projeto e novas oportunidades de negócio\, em particular nas áreas relacionadas com a bioeconomia azul. \n\n\nAna Cavadas\, Transferência de Tecnologia e Desenvolvimento de Negócio \nDá apoio às atividades de transferência de conhecimento e gestão da inovação do CIIMAR. As suas principais atividades incluem a valorização e exploração de resultados de I&D\, a gestão da Propriedade Intelectual\, a implementação da ligação às partes interessadas e de iniciativas de I&D orientadas para o mercado\, o desenvolvimento da estratégia de inovação do CIIMAR e a promoção do empreendedorismo.

DESCRIPTION:In an increasingly international\, digital and collaborative scientific ecosystem\, researchers online visibility has become a key factor in expanding professional networks\, creating opportunities for collaboration and broadening the reach of their scientific work. In addition to being a recruitment platform\, LinkedIn has established itself as a strategic space for researchers to disseminate scientific results\, share publications\, awards and projects\, keep up with emerging trends and establish contacts that can lead to collaborations\, project applications and international consortia. \n  \n\nGENERAL INFORMATIONS:\nThe ‘LinkedIn for Researchers‘ workshop will be held at CIIMAR on November 12th\, from 2pm to 5:30pm. The session will be conducted in english. \nIt is intended for CIIMAR PhD students and PhD holders who wish to use LinkedIn more strategically in the context of research. \n  \nRegistrations are open until November 10th. \n\nCIIMAR & IPMA researchers: free\nStandard: 100€ (CCMAR members have a 50% discount)\n\n  \nNOTE: The attendance certificate will be issued if the trainee attends at least 80% of the total course time. \nIf tickets are sold out\, you can sign up for the waiting list (you will be notified in order of registration). \n  \n\nDESCRIPTION:\nIt consists of a workshop featuring demonstrations\, concrete examples and practical exercises\, followed by individual online mentoring sessions (to be scheduled within the next three months) with each participant interested in receiving feedback on their LinkedIn profile. \n  \nFor this session\, each participant should bring their laptop. \nAGENDA: \n\nLinkedIn in the scientific research ecosystem\nBuilding a strategic scientific profile (DEMONSTRATION)\nEvaluating your LinkedIn profile photo (PRACTICAL EXERCISE)\nCommunicating science on LinkedIn: How the LinkedIn algorithm works and what increases organic visibility\nExamples of effective posts (EXAMPLES)\nLinkedIn as a promoter of research networks\nWhat content should a researcher publish? (EXAMPLES)\nAction plan\n\n  \nTrainer: Ana Freitas \n\nBachelor’s degree in Education (IE–University of Minho); Master’s degree in Educational Sciences (IE–University of Minho); PhD candidate in Educational Sciences with a research focus on Doctoral Education (FPCEUP). Certified as a teacher trainer (CCPFC/RFO-16273/03) and as a trainer of trainers (EDF-42336-2003). She is currently a Visiting Assistant Lecturer at the University of Porto (Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Sciences) and a doctoral research fellow at CIIE – Centre for Research and Intervention in Education\, FPCEUP.

Membro efetivo da Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses. Mestre em Psicologia Clínica e da Saúde (Universidade do Porto)\, com especialização avançada em Coaching Psicológico (Instituto CRIAP). Experiência em contexto clínico com a comunidade académica no ensino superior (estudantes e colaboradores)\, bem como com adultos no geral\, nas diferentes fases de vida. Experiência na área da psicologia do trabalho\, tanto no acompanhamento individual como grupal\, em contexto universitário e corporativo.

Her experience in academic writing led to her profound interest in healthier approaches to writing when supporting her peers\, both in lectures\, writing groups and through online training for doctoral researchers. She holds a PhD in Educational Research and a professional qualification to deliver online and residential academic writing retreats.
