SUMMARY:Science Communication (public speaking for non experts audience)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop aims to improve the oral communication skills of the attendees\, to ultimately contribute to better\, pitches\, presentations of their work or other oral communications when addressing non-expert audiences. \n  \n\nGENERAL INFORMATIONS:\nThe ‘Science Communication‘ workshop will be held on May 18th\, from 10am to 5pm\, in the old Vaccination Center of Matosinhos. \nThe session will be conducted in english (unless all participants speak portuguese). \n  \nThis workshop is aimed for CIIMAR PhD Students and Post-Docs (priority to PhD students). Students of the BYT program are also welcomed to attend this training. \n  \nRegistrations: \n\nCIIMAR: free\nStandard: 120€ (CCMAR & IPMA have a 50% discount)\n\n  \nNOTE: The attendance certificate will be issued if the trainee attends at least 80% of the total course time. \n  \n\nDESCRIPTION:\nAgenda: \n\n10:00 a.m. – Welcome and ice-breaking exercise\n10:30 a.m. – Why and how to communicate (theoretical)\n11:30 a.m. – Break\n11:45 a.m. – Structure your storyline (practical)\n12:15 p.m. – Talk to you colleagues and get feedback (practical)\n12:30 p.m. – Lunch\n2:00 p.m. – Stress management and voice tips and exercises (theoretical – practical)\n3:00 p.m. – 3 minutes Pitch (practical)\n4:45 p.m. – Final remarks\n\n  \nTrainers: \nAna Mena\, Head of Image\, Communication and Outreach Office \nBefore joining CIIMAR\, Ana Mena was the Innovation and Education Coordinator at the MIT Portugal Program (MPP) in Portugal\, and previously\, she was the Coordinator of the Science Communication and External Relations Unit and the Public Engagement Unit at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC). At IGC\, she was responsible for institutional communication and the press office and coordinated several science education and communication projects. Her work in science communication has received awards in Portugal and abroad. \nAna Salgado\, Head of Training and Career Office \nAna Salgado holds a PhD in Educational Psychology from University of Minho. With over 15 years of experience in higher education\, she has taught as a lecturer at multiple institutions. She has led pedagogical projects aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching. Ana has been actively engaged in designing training programs for PhD supervisors and developing courses for PhD\, master’s\, and bachelor’s students focused on transversal skills.
