SUMMARY:Conflict Management and Effective Communication in Research Teams
DESCRIPTION:This training is designed to equip researchers with knowledge and tools to manage the most common type of conflicts that occur within research teams. \nIt was designed based on a combination of theories\, concepts and best practices related to team communication and conflict management. \n  \n\nGENERAL INFORMATIONS:\nThe ‘Conflict Management and Effective Communication in Research Teams’ workshop will be held at Old Vaccination Center of Matosinhos on March 18th\, from 10am to 4pm.  \nThe session will be held in english (unless all participants are portuguese speackers). \n  \nThis workshop is aimed for Researchers. \n  \nRegistrations: \n\nCIIMAR: free\nStandard: 100€ (CCMAR & IPMA members have a 50% discount)\n\n  \nNOTE: The attendance certificate will be issued if the trainee attends at least 80% of the total course time \nIf tickets are sold out\, you can sign up for the waiting list. \n  \n\nDESCRIPTION:\nParticipants will learn to identify severe vs non-severe conflicts\, learn about ego states\, transactional analysis\, and how these impact our conversations in the lab\, best practices of assertive language\,”I” vs “you” posture in dialogues\, common bias in conflict management\, empathy and its impact / importance\, and how to build self-awareness through identification of personal conflict management style. \n  \nMain Learning outcomes: \n\nUnderstand that knowing how to manage conflicts impacts your individual and your research colleagues’ work results\, your reputation and your personal /career development;\nBecome familiar with concepts and theories related to conflict management;\nBecome better equipped to manage conflicts effectively with your colleagues through knowledge\, but also through practical exercises and role-playing / mock situations.\n\n  \nTrainer: Pedro Resende \nPedro is Co-Founder and CEO of Chaperone\, a social impact company\, with the mission of democratizing access to high-quality career development in science. Chaperone is trusted by prestigious institutions such as EMBL\, Karolinska Institutet\, European Commission Joint Research Centres\, Gulbenkian Foundation\, and many more. In addition to his role at Chaperone\, Pedro is a former Life Sciences Academic Researcher in the field of Stem Cell Biology. He was awarded his PhD with distinction from studies on stem cell niche dynamics\, developed at the Salk Institute\, San Diego\, California. Pedro co-founded two professional associations\, and one startup\, and worked in Policy Advice at Health Parliament Portugal and as External Consultant at the Ministry of Health\, Portugal.
